SENIOR STRATEGIST

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Strategist understands the forces – political, financial, regulatory and more – that can be harnessed to drive positive social change, eliminate economic and racial injustice, and confront the threat of climate disruption. The Senior Strategist is an experienced campaigner and is comfortable in diverse settings, from working in coalition with grassroots organizations to meeting with business leaders and government officials. The Senior Strategist is fluent in the issues surrounding the decarbonization of the power sector, transportation, and buildings. The Senior Strategist advises Donovan Energy’s consulting clients, with a focus on the non-profit sector, and informs Donovan Energy’s long-term strategic planning.

REPORTS TO:  Chief Strategy Officer

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts original research, analyzes proposed and current policies, and evaluates their effects on Donovan Energy clients;

  • Advises Donovan Energy clients on strategic campaign needs;

  • Evaluates feasibility of renewable energy and energy efficiency project development;

  • Navigates subscription news and information services such as S&P Global Market Intelligence;

  • Generates attractive, informative data visualizations for internal and external use;

  • Represents Donovan Energy in strategic coalition settings and at key conferences;

  • Collaborates with like-minded businesses and organizations on mutual goals;

  • Contributes to Donovan Energy’s long-term strategic planning;

  • Contributes and advises on strong internal corporate and social responsibility goals and practices, including diversity, equity and inclusion measures;

  • Prepares interim and final client reports in narrative form and produces well-designed, visually appealing slide decks;

  • Contributes to and supports the overall team effort; and

  • Provides general support for Chief Strategy Officer and other staff.

 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Advanced degree preferred. College degree in energy, environmental sciences, finance, or related field required.

  • Experience: 5+ years of strategic campaign experience required, ideally including strategy development, implementation, project management, organizing, lobbying, policy drafting or review, media relations, and working to establish trusting relationships and community, political and business leaders.

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills;

  • Proven ability to work with and deepen relationships with clients, partners and/or coalitions;

  • Knowledge of cloud collaboration tools (i.e. Gmail, Google Drive, etc.) and the Microsoft Office suite;

  • Understanding of energy markets, environmental laws, and public utility regulation;

  • Understanding of climate/energy philanthropic and advocacy landscape;

  • Understanding of how social justice goals intersect with climate and clean energy; and

  • Comfort working as an individual contributor and as a member of a team.
