POSITION OVERVIEW

Donovan Energy is among the region’s most innovative companies providing clean energy project development and financing solutions to the commercial real estate marketplace.

 

The Controller will focus on ensuring that Donovan Energy is operating at maximum efficiency. This position will manage all internal accounting and finance responsibilities and will be empowered to help the Company continue to grow and innovate.  The broad array of functions to oversee will include financial close and reporting, tax filings, HR, payroll, banking, and insurance. REPORTS TO:  Chief Financial Officer

​

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with GAAP.

  • Recommends benchmarks and financial ratios that will be used to measure the company’s performance.

  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.

  • Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

  • Manages the relationship with 3rd-party accounting firm, including the annual audit and tax filings.

  • Files monthly, quarterly, and annual closes to the Company’s financial statements.

  • Interacts regularly with the Company’s Professional Employment Organization, overseeing payroll and evaluating HR/benefits offerings.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

  • Maintain the renewals and negotiate company insurance relationships.

  • Supports the company’s clean energy finance offerings to clients (e.g., PACE financing), periodically performing financial analysis and reviewing amortization schedules.

  • Participate on the Company’s internal DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) team to achieve employee-driven goals.

  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. 

 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of equivalent experience in related field required.  Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.  Construction Accounting and Project-based Accounting experience is preferred.

COMPETENCE & SKILL SET

  • Understanding of, or willingness and ability to learn, complex offerings such as PACE, and state and federal tax policies affecting clean energy.

  • Experience with or exposure to startup and small businesses work environments will be important as Donovan Energy is a 5-year old company and anticipates continually innovating.

  • Experience in the clean energy industry is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Competency in databases and accounting software (QuickBooks)

  • Knowledge in use of cloud collaboration tools (i.e., Gmail, Google Drive, etc.) and the Microsoft Office suite, especially intermediate to advanced command of Microsoft Excel

  • Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software

  • Sense of humor, come on, you know it’s important
